Celebrating 20 years!!
This Saturday, back in 1993.. yes, 20 years ago this weekend, I walked onto the stage at the Roxy (now the Arena in Brisbane) for the very first time.
Since then, I've been lucky enough to have a wonderful career in the dance music industry, and with this anniversary upon me, I've been reflecting on the journey so far.
I've been so blessed to have been able to share my passion with the world, and write music, play, dj, dance and travel for the last 20 years (I know, and I'm still 28 how amazing is that!). My thoughts have been bringing me back to the people / angels along the way who have helped my career and me personally, industry friends, fans and personal friends and family. To them I say thanks. I would especially like to thank the list of people below..
Ben Suthers for co-producing some of my first releases, being a tour manager FOH guy and all round troubleshooter (even when I was the trouble haha), and good friend. John Ferris for my first signing with Sony, and for Plastic and for being my dance music big brother, I thank you every day. Noel and Tim from V45 who gave me some of my first gig supports and remixes, as did Sameer and Stu from Southend. Andrew Penhallow who I still remember his face when I decided I was going to call myself "BeXta".. My live show touring posse - Jo JMG13, Nina and Patty my dancers, Jamie for lights for gigs, shoots and more. My first manager Danielle Moylan, I made you earn your cut!! lol. Tim McGee and Jamie Raeburn from Central Station for my Mixology series deal. Brett Volker for Mcing all those years ago.
All the promoters along the way who have the same passion for getting the music out there that I did.. Ken West & BDO, Michael Watt and Peter Brown, and Edwin for my first ever gig. There are so many to mention but special mention to Sam Crane, Tom-E, Joey, Pupa Smurf, Simon Coffee for my first regular gig at Plastic and Transmission, Scott Alert, Jason & Mark @ BassStation, Jason & Advenjah, Simon Page, Nik Fish for getting my first set at Voodoo, Josh Campbell, Andy SOS, Daniele & the Enchanted crew, Pete Davis, Rino & dj Josh @ Earth, Harry @ Family, Simon @ Rise, Dexi, the boys at King St Newy, Pan,,, OMG there are so many to mention I'm scared I'm going to leave someone out, you know who you are so don't be pissed xox.. Also Cameron Brown MCNO3 and Losty I've always thought you guys would be stars!! And you are.
The Aussie djs that inspired me - Peewee, Jen-E, Angus, John, Nik Fish, Sean Quinn, Nick Skitz, Jumping Jack (especially for playing Make It Phunkee back in 1999ish when I just happened to be walking through an audience of 4000 - one of my fav moments ever!)…
And to those close to me - Andrea dancing onstage with me at my first gig so I wasn't up there by myself, Heidi, Lisa, and Mark and new and old friends, you know who you are!
I don't want this to start sounding like a bad Oscar award speech (which it does but it's not supposed to - just want to share the love), but I do feel as if I won something…
Anyway, this weekend I'll be thinking back, having a couple of cold ones while being annoyingly nostalgic. Ah, the memories!!
And if you ever bought a cd, or cassette haha or whatever, ever came to a gig, ever wrote to me, ever supported me, THANKS!! I look forward to what comes next, and what I can offer, and it better be FUCKING LOUD!
